The first weekend of May 2013 was the warmest in Vancouver area in the last 70 years. Jon and Sheila were supposed to be sailing to the Vancouver island to spend it there. The blue sky and the idea of having cool engagement pictures taken at Kitsilano beach was stronger so they canceled the trip and book their photo session with us. Since our first meeting this couple had its own story to tell.

A big part of it was how they spend their time together. This was very important for them and to capture it in their images I have actually customized the engagement session for them. I have decided to to spent the afternoon with them while they were biking around me enjoying the sunny day. And then after a brake and dress code change we met again at the similar location for the second part of this Kitsilano beach engagement session where we waited for the perfect sunset hosts. And we hit it right on. Those images with the rest of these will be published for soon, so stay tuned to follow this joyful couple to have am exciting photo shoot till the darkness took over the night.

This silhouette was one of the last shots of the afternoon session but I loved the simplicity of that so much I decided to start with it. Low light reflected in the ocean and backlighting them and the bikes gives this a romantic sense. The B&W edit just nailed it and that was the original idea. When I have a great scenery in front of me revealing and the amazing light is painting strong contrast I love to shoot compositions for black and white final look.

The second shot shows Jon and Sheila how they race against the breeze uphill at Kitsilano park. A tough job to separate the crowds during this summer day from the views but if you can lie down and shoot from a low angle do it and the park is all yours :).

The last shot is as simple as it gets. Let them enjoy themselves and whatever they do is going to be so spontaneous and genuine that even laying in the grass will suddenly get an extra dimension in it. Love my super wide Nikkor 14-24 AFS f2.8 lens. Magic glass worth every cent.

And another wedding couple has booked Kitsilano beach engagement session in two weeks with us. Great. Lets create something different.
